4.0 Scale HOLISTIC PARTICIPATION RUBRIC

Score 4.0: (++) In addition to Score 3.0 performances, on-time attendance, class etiquette and voluntary participation that go beyond what is expected.

Always arrives in class on-time, finds seat and has materials out and ready to work
Always attentive and on-task during class lessons and activities
Never has to be reminded about distracting behaviors
Always makes an effort to speak French in class interaction
Volunteers answers often without prompt; always willing to respond

Score 3.5: (+) In addition to Score 3.0 performance, almost always on-time attendance, only rare lapses from class etiquette; partial success at voluntary participation

Score 3.0: (√+) Regular on-time attendance, infrequent minor violation of class etiquette, frequent voluntary participation.

Arrives regularly on-time in class, usually is in seat and ready to work with materials;
Usually attentive and on-task during class lessons and activities with only occasion lapse of off-task behavior
Infrequently has to be reminded about distracting behaviors.
Usually makes an effort to speak French in class, with only occasion lapses
Sometimes volunteers answers without being prompted; always makes an effort to respond when called upon

Score 2.5: (√) Occasional minor tardy or infraction of class etiquette; occasionally volunteers answers, but usually waits to be called on; excused absence with on-time completion of missing assignments

Score 2.0: (√–) Usual on-time attendance, but needs prompting to be ready to work; too frequently a lack of respect for class etiquette; rarely volunteers answers, but sometimes makes effort to answer when prompted

Arrives at last minute and is not ready to work when class starts, or is missing some class materials
Excused tardy or minor tardy (less than 1 minute)
Sometimes in-attentive (and/or sleeping), or off-task during class interaction
Needs regular reminder about class etiquette; demonstrates distracting behaviors
Makes only partial effort to speak French in class; needs reminders
Almost never volunteers to answer; sometimes makes an effort to respond when prompted

Score 1.5: (–) Generally, is not ready to work when class begins; shows frequent lack of respect for class etiquette; sleeping or working on unrelated assignments; generally, does not voluntarily participate in class discussions and activities when asked

Score 1.0: (– –) unexcused tardy or absence, needs constant reminder to get to work, shows little respect for class etiquette, total lack of effort to participate in discussions or class activities

Unexcused absence or tardy in excess of 5 minutes
Comes to class without textbook or other class materials
Using cell phone or iPod in the classroom
Distracted with in-appropriate conversations; usually makes no effort to speak French
Makes no effort to participate or unable to participate because of other personal distractions unrelated to class (e.g., sleeping, doing work for other classes, doing crosswords or other puzzles unrelated to class)

A = 3.0–4

B = 2.5–2.99

C = 2.0–2.49
