Site #1:
Look through at least ten photos on the FirstWorldWar.com Vintage Photographs - Trenches and choose two to save.
1. Save (download) the photos as .jpg files.
2. Copy the descriptions into a Word file.
3 . What do these photos tell us about the life of soldiers in WWI?

Site #2:
Find 2 photos on the AP Multimedia Archive. (Have Sam/Julie help you with this database from the Lancer Library Homepage.):
1. In the What box, type: 'World War I' and soldiers
2. In the When box, type: from 1914 to 1918
2. Save (download) the photos and copy the descriptions into a Word document.
3. What do these photos tell us about the life of soldiers in WWI?

Site #3:
1. Read the "Hand-toHand Combat," the story of Bert Hall in Guts and Glory (soldiers describe World War I).
2. Choose one event from Bert Hall's story and take notes about it.
3. Prepare to retell it.

Site #4:
1. Read the Black Yankee
2 . Take notes that include three facts and one quotation.

Site #5:
1. Go to Trench Warfare and read four sections of the article on trench warfare.
2 . Take notes that include two facts for each section.

. What do these descriptions tell us about the life of soldiers in the trenches during WWI?

Site #6:
1. Military executions were part of WWI. Go to Shot at Dawn, select a link on the left, and read the story of one soldier who was executed.
2 . Take notes on why the soldier was executed.
3. What does this story tell us about the life of soldiers during WWI?
