Conflict in the Asian Theater

When searching for information about areas of conflict in Asia, you need to keep the following questions in mind:

  1. What is the history of the conflict? Who is involved?

  2. What are the stated issues?

  3. What are the underlying or unstated issues?

  4. What are the longterm effects of the conflict?

  5. What would resolve this conflict? If it has been resolved, how was this accomplished?

  6. What are the strengths and weaknesses of the opposing arguments?

  7. What other countries are affected by this conflict?

The library has a number of resources that will provide this type of information.

To get a basic understanding of a particular country and some of its history, an encyclopedia can be helpful.

Go to WorldBook or Encyclopedia Britannica.

These databases provide access to thousands of periodicals and reference works. They will have information on historical as well as recent developments.

Remember that these conflicts may have their origin in something that has a different name than the assigned topics.

You have to deal with some annoying pop-ups at first but the site has good background information.
