Process

Note: Before beginning this process, be sure that you understand the task and have a timeline on your planner! Also go to evaluation for the rubrics that will be used to grade your work. Look at these BEFORE you start your reading, organizing and writing.

1.
Go to Issues and choose one. Select a role that you will assume. Read through a couple of the articles that are linked on your issue page. Identify each of the articles you read and plan to use to support your arguments. Be sure to collect the information needed to cite the sources you use. Do this at the beginning of the process, don't wait until you are finished.
2.
Set up the computer (Inspiration) for collecting the facts you'll need.
3.

Use the suggested resources to get information for your paper/speech. Take notes into your Inspiration outline or mind map. Save the notes and store them on Gwen. You should purchase a new disk for this project if you don't have a clean one. Disks are available in the Lancer Library and Lancer Communications. Store your disk where it won't get damaged.

Go to Works Cited for help in using correct format for citing the resources you use.

4.

You may search for additional resources such as library books, other online resources, interviews, etc. and add to your outline/map. Keep adding notes to your outline/map.

5.

You need to schedule an interview with a person in the role you have taken. Consult the telephone directory if you don't already have a contact.

Here are some tips on conducting an interview.

6.

Remember, your goal is to present an argument to convince others that your point of view is the right one. Here are some tips on developing persuasive arguments.

7.

Write the paper.

If needed, go back to task for details and to evaluation for rubrics.

8.

Prepare your speech.

You may refer to notes or an outline, but you may not read your paper. Rehearse your speech as often as needed to be comfortable with your delivery. A video will be shown in class.
