Searching the Net

Advanced Search Google - efficient searching
1. From google.com select Advanced Search.
2. Enter your search terms:

with all of the words: warm-up stretches
with the exact phrase
: lower back

Google - Use multiple terms and “quotation marks around phrases”: FIT and “frequency, intensity, and time”

Citing your Sources:

Keeping track of your sources:

As you work, copy the citation information of each source that you use.
For this project, you only need brief citation information:

the URL (http://www...) if on the internet
name of author (if there is an author)
title of article OR webpage OR book title
organization sponsoring the page (found at bottom of page or use the "Home" link)
database or encyclopedia name (If applicable.)

Ms. Pleus wants just a brief citation for each piece of information that you have taken from another place.
If you think it up in your head, there is no need for a citation, but otherwise, you must say where you found it.
This involves numbering your sources within your Fitness Plan and setting up a Citation Page at the end.
Be sure to copy and paste the URL into your plan rather than typing, to avoid mistakes.

Here is an example:

"Flexibility is the range of motion around a joint." (1) Flexibility is important because it reduces the risk of injury, and allows one to be more limber in their activity. According to my fitness plan, I will be stretching before and after each workout to maintain my healthy level of flexibility.

Some thoughts about Plagiarism...

Plagiarism is copying another's work and turning it in as your own. It is unethical.

Plagiarism is tempting in this day and age of cut and paste resources, but it is unwise.

Plagiarism is easy to detect. A teacher can type a suspicious phrase from a student's paper into Google, and the original source will usually come up.

Teachers are much more interested in what YOU have to say!
