Edison Parent Council

Parent Council is a fun, active group of dedicated parents, and a great way to get involved in the Edison Community and its many activities and initiatives.

Our committees focus on Outreach (volunteers & publicity), Kids Care (service learning), Staff Appreciation, Power of Peers (peer relationships), and Fitness and Nutrition. We also promote a variety of events and fundraisers throughout the year.

Our meetings are the third Tuesday of the month, 6:30-7:30 pm in the library. Childcare is available at school during the meetings! Please contact us to arrange it for your child.

We welcome new members for the 2006-07 school year.

Purpose and Roles

The Parent Council is a group of Edison parents that:

  • Serve as communicators and ambassadors.
Parent Council members disperse information from Parent Council meetings to other parents, and bring concerns from other parents to the meetings.
  • Encourage volunteerism.
Parent Council includes a Volunteer Committee, which networks with parents, grandparents and the local community.
  • Serve as project coordinators.
Parent Council members coordinate the Fall Family Picnic, Family Nights, All-Parent Meetings, School Anthology, Project Fair, and numerous other activities.
  • Serve as fundraising boosters.
Parent Council members provide input on all fundraisers, coordinate some fundraisers, and encourage parents to make commitments to the variety of fundraising projects Edison needs to meet its financial goals.
  • Serve as advocates.
Parent Council members are advocates for the needs of Edison children and elementary children throughout the dsitrict and state. The Council is involved in policy development and the political process related to school funding and other school issues. The Council does this by inviting speakders to its "all-parent meetings" and by rallying support for specific initiatives.

Meetings

Parent Council meets the third Tuesday of the month, from 6:30-8:30 pm in the Edison Library. Decision-making is by group consensus of the members. However, meetings are open to all parents and anyone can request items to be placed on the agenda. Agendas and minutes of each meeting are posted in the main hallway.

Members

There are usually around 20 parent members. Typically, new members join in late spring or early fall. We make an effort to have a balanced representation of parents across all grade levels. Our principal is also a member.

For more information, or to submit an item for the agenda, contact our Parent Council Co-chair(s):
