Charlemagne Chess Club 2008-2009

Come and learn to play chess!

Students in all grades, K-5, are invited to join Chess Club!

On November 1st, the 2008 'Fall Classic' chess tournament was held at South Eugene High School, with competitors from as far away as Medford.  Fifth grader Desmond  played very well and won the 3rd place trophy in the K-5th grade division.  Fourth grader Miles won 1st place in the 4th-6th grade Novice division, and third grader Cole won 1st place in the K-3rd grade Novice division.  Way to go everyone!

As always we are having lots of fun at chess club, and there is always room for more. If you are interested in joining the Chess Club, you can do so at any time of the year.   Contact Jerry Ramey for details:  232-0328;  j-adoube@efn.org.

Where: The GYM

The first meeting is September 19 and the last will be just before Spring Beak.
Sign-ups will be handled differently than in years past. A signup sheet will be in the office. We will fill the twenty club spots through a lottery, with the remaining students placed on a wait list.  Fees are yet to be determined but will be approximately $30.

***NOTE: Parents of kinders will be asked to stay with their child during the club.

The Intermediate/Advanced Club:

When: Fridays from 3 pm
Where: The Gym
Taught by: Jerry Ramey

If you already know how the pieces move and some basic chess strategies, you should be in the Intermediate Chess Club. There will be three terms this year and each will cost around $40. You may signup for any or all terms.

New to the advanced club this year is the ACCELERATED CHESS PROGRAM.
This program is for those who wish to learn to play well, more rapidly.   These classes will be smaller than the Club sessions; therefore players will receive more individual attention.  Emphasis will be on learning in a program designed to also be fun. Fees are approximately $60 per term.

See you at chess club!
