Math 6 and Math 7 Description and Goals: Students will acquire computational fluency with fractions, decimals and integers. Students will learn to apply appropriate techniques, tools, and formulas to determine measurement. Problem solving will be emphasized through the year to deepen their understanding.


Pre-Algebra Description and Goals: Pre-Algebra is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in mathematics as they transition into Algebra. Students will develop their understanding of decimals, fraction, ratios and proportions, measurement, integers, functional relationships and variables. Problem solving will be interwoven throughout the year to deepen their understanding of mathematical concepts.


Units of Study: Topics that will be covered this year include the following, which are designed to prepare students for the 8th grade benchmark:

Instructional Materials Textbook and supplementary materials are used in combination. Math lab activities are included in most classes.


Attendance Policy We will follow the school-wide attendance policy as listed in the student/parent handbook.


Make Up Work Policy Students will be given two days for each day absent to make up their work.

Evaluation
Grades will be based on student performance in the following areas:
Homework
Tests & Weekly Quizzes
Class work (see “In Class Activities” listed about)


Late Work Policy - An assignment not turned in during the period it is due is considered late.
Late - Students receive 75% credit for completed late assignments.


Redo Policy Students may redo any assignment with a grade below a C for full credit, as long as they show their work and include the old assignment. Tests/quizzes may also be redone for up to 75% credit. Notebook quizzes may NOT be redone.


Progress reports will be sent home with students every Friday. If students returned them signed, they can receive extra credit. The first progress report will be sent home Friday, September 26.
Students have ONE WEEK to make up late/missing work after progress reports are sent home.

A = 90-100%
B = 80-89%
C = 70-79%
D = 60-69%
F = 0-59%
