Whiteaker on TV

Betty Snowden of Jean Tate did a two-part story on Whiteaker on Channel 4, KEVU. Trying to raise money for our Adopt a Class Program.
She Interviewed several folks around the school, including Principal Don Jackson and our Nurse Maxine Proskurowski. They discuss
some of the needs of the school and the neighborhood community.
Mr Randall's Farm
We take a lot of trips to Mr. Randalls Farm here at Whiteaker. He has lots
of cows, a really cool tractor and trailer for hay rides, a pulley ride
out of the trees that is real fun, and a trampoline. He takes us around
the farm and lets us feed the cows old apples and stuff. There are horses
next door too! We always have a great time. Most all classes go once a year,
and have been going for years. MOO CHAS GRACIAS Paul!
Balloon Lands at School

A flying Whopper landed at the playground last week as
the Radio station Magic94 with Dennis Mikata landed during first period. Lesson plans fell to the wind
as the kids crowded around as the hot air balloon landed. Dennis had
breakfast with Don Jackson and chatted with the kids. Dennis sure thought Don gets a lotta hugs!
Awards Pile Up for Whiteaker

At a recent awards ceremony in Portland, Whiteaker Community School was one of only
seven schools in Oregon, three of them elementary, to recieve the Associated Oregon Industries Outstanding Elementary School Award. President Clinton wrote a very nice
letter to Whiteaker acknow- ledging our award and excellence. Principal Don Jackson was on hand
to receive the award and to give a good speech. Hooray for our hard work!!
Visitors

Two researchers from the U.S. Library of Congress were in
the building while visiting schools to see how federal laws and programs affect students.
They were especially affected by the "worry wall," though they were quite impressed by the rest of what
they saw as well.
James Stedman and Wayne Riddle toured the building with Principal Don Jackson after hearing through
the grapevine that Whiteaker was an excellent school. They visited classrooms and roamed the halls,
talking to teachers and students about the programs available here. Due to the large amount of social
services provided in the building, the men were looking closely at how social services and education
mix.
